Matt, 22, from Grampound Road, found out about XtraVert through a friend who works with Cornwall Council. He joined the training programme in 2009 and hasn't looked back. Here's what he has to say about woodwork, pressure flips and becoming a carpenter for a living...

What do you like about working with wood?

I love using wood because it is natural and you can make very beautiful things out of it.

How long have you been skating for?

I have been skating on and off for the last 10 years, but only really got back into it when I started at XtraVert.

What’s your favourite skate spot?

When I was younger my favourite spot used to be my old village primary school, great for skating but we always used to get kicked out!

What’s your best trick?

Preasure flips and finger flips

What’s your worst injury?

I broke my arm dropping in on the vert ramp at Mount Hawke. I didn’t know it was broken for a few days though, so I just carried on skating!

What’s your favourite thing about skating?

The satisfaction of landing sick tricks can't be matched. Oh and the adrenalin rush is pretty good too!
